    What are the benefits of toothpaste for dogs and cats?

    Regular cleaning of teeth is important for dogs and cats toremovefood debris and plaque, therebypreventing inflammation and other dental problems. Untreated dental diseases can not only lead to pain and a refusal to eat, but can also put strain on the heart, kidneys and other organs. So, by ensuring good oral hygiene, you’re not only giving your pet fresher breath, but also making an important contribution to their overall health.

    Specialised toothpaste for dogs and cats is tailored to animals’ tastes and needs. But how does it work, and what makes it so special?

    On the one hand, dog toothpaste may contain small, mineral-based granules for mechanical cleaning. On the other hand, the ingredients in the toothpaste help to effectively remove bacteria and protect the teeth. In many cases, the toothpaste is also available as a gel.

    Unlike our toothpaste for humans, dog toothpaste contains neither fluoride nor xylitol, as both are toxic to our furry friends. Instead, it may contain other ingredients that support the cleaning and health of teeth and gums. These include:

    Brushing teeth with toothpaste – how to do it

    1. Get your pet used to the taste of the toothpaste before you start brushing their teeth.
    2. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a damp toothbrush, a finger sleeve or your finger. Follow the dosage instructions provided in the guidance.
    3. Gently lift the lips and move your brushing tool in gentle circular motions over the outer surfaces of the teeth.
    4. Your dog or cat does not need to spit out the toothpaste after brushing.
    5. Now it’s time for a treat!
